Due to liability concerns of the School District regarding possible injury on the
river, the fees of the classroom and river fieldtrips have been separated.
However, the cost of the Beginning courses remains the same ($90) regardless
of whether or not river trips are attended. Please be assured that the
student's safety is the instructor's highest concern and to date there has never
been an injury to any student. That having been said, certain risks are
inherent to any outdoor activity; such as Fishing. Therefore one needs to
understand that the fieldwork associated with this class is, "at your own risk."
|
Note: The fishing trips are non-guided. The students fish, "on
their own," and at, "their own risk." There is no one fee for each fishing trip.
No student has paid for any one trip. Nor is any student required to attend
any one trip. The trips are volunteer only. No trip, is in anyway associated, with
Davis High School or Davis School district. Students fishing, are on their
own and are only fishing under the rights purchased by, and afforded by, the states
fishing license and are not the responsibility of anyone but the purchaser
of the fishing license themselves. |

The positive feedback I get from teaching the class has been far more rewarding than
I ever could have imagined. This has been a special chapter in my life and
I'm not sure I will never enjoy something as much as I have enjoyed teaching these
classes. -Mike |

The trips are to Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Yellowstone Park. Much of the
classroom attention will be spent on the entomology specific to the areas to be
fished. The student will tie all the flies to be used during the field work. The
fishing experience will focus on other fly fishing destinations outside of Utah,
water reading, fly-presentation, strike detection and subtle tricks. Also,
landing and releasing techniques will be discussed. (We'll tie lots of flies!) Note: The advanced class is incredibly fun and sells out quickly. It is reserved for graduates from the Beginning classes. Click here for the Advanced page! |
This is an advanced fly-fishing class for those students who have had the beginning
class or have had ample fly-fishing experience. The course will delve deeper
into the sport's subtle techniques and explore the fine lines of success. Less
time will be spent in the classroom with more time on the water. There will be
four field fishing experiences. |

This is an advance fly fishing class for those students that have had all of the
beginning and advance courses taught by Mike Navidomskis. The Extreme Class has
become the premiere class offered in the fly fish school. It is a travel based
class that has become the most popular class taught. The trips are two day fishing
excursions to 8-9 of the best fly fishing destinations in North America. The
class will teach the student strategies and techniques needed to fish in these
various locations. |
Here are some of the destinations for the coming 2010 fishing season.
Gallatin River in Montana, the Salmon River in Idaho, the Roaring Fork River
in Colorado, the Big Horn River in Montana, the Owyhee River in Oregon,
the Beaverhead River in Montana, the Grays River In Wyoming, the Big
Wood River in Idaho, the Missouri River in Montana, the Ruby River in Montana.
These rivers plus another river yet to be named make up the 2010 Extreme
Class Fly Fishing line up. |
Note: If you found out about this class thru the Davis County Community School mailer; please take note; due to possible injury during the fieldwork, Davis High cannot list or even talk about the curriculum outside of class. Therefore the fly fishing class is only listed as a $35.00 class in the mailer. The class is divided by the hours of instruction involved. Therefore, the portion of the class time beyond the 18 hours of in classroom instruction has been separated out (these other times are on the river hours and preparation time) of the cost of the class and are not listed as a part of the cost of the class in the mailer. The reason for this is that Davis High School cannot be liable for any injury suffered during any time spent with the class outside of the 18 hours spent in the classroom. (For example, there are three fishing days associated with the class that is not listed in the mailer, because we will not be in the confines of the classroom at Davis High School. We will go fishing 3 times.) The actual cost of the class is $95.00 plus a $5.00 lab fee. Total cost $100.00. (The lab fee will cover the costs of the fly tying materials.) The $100.00 will be collected the first night of class. Note: Due to the possibility for injury while participating in the fielding work out on the river, the student must understand that students can only participate in the three river fishing classes on the condition that they understand that the river portion of the class at their own risk. Davis High, nor any instructor or helper is in no way liable to any injury suffered by any student. All students are participating in the river fishing portion of the class; AT THEIR OWN RISK. This must be understood before any student ventures out to the river with the fly fishing class! -mike |
We start the Extreme Class in January , 2010 |

The trips are spread out throughout the year with an average of 9 trips in 11 months.
They are pre-scheduled trips to world class fly fishing destinations, plus
a hand full of un-scheduled yet planned, side trips to do research on new rivers
for future Extreme Class destinations. |

We start in January and we fish all the way to November (we take the month of December
off). In the class you will catch lots of large fish, and you will see some
of the most beautiful country in the world. Better yet, you will make friends
that will last a lifetime. Even if you can only make a few of the scheduled trips
the class is still more than a bargain! |
Note: also that we still have a number of research trips during the calendar year
to rivers the likes of: Rock Creek in Montana, the Teton River in Idaho, the North
Platt River in Wyoming, the Big Hole River in Montana, the Gunnison River
in Colorado and the South Fork of the Boise River in Idaho. |
